How Does Face Lift Surgery Happen?

Face lift operation is a surgical procedure that aims to remove wrinkles and sagging on our face due to aging by suspending the subcutaneous layers of our face and restoring skin tension. It is frequently applied in patients aged 40 and over.

However, due to genetic and stress factors, surgery can be performed at younger ages, if needed. I recommend non-surgical facial rejuvenation methods for our patients from younger age groups. Especially those who have prominent mid-face lines and prominent sagging in the lower face and neck region are suitable candidates for this operation.

In facelift operations, we first determine whether the person is ready for the changes that this operation will bring about. If our patient is determined on this issue, we explain in detail what changes we plan on the face and neck of our patient regarding the operation. Facelift surgeries are operations that are often performed under general anesthesia. Before the operation, we question whether our patient has a risky condition in terms of general anesthesia. Preoperative examinations also help us in this regard. We question the use of blood thinners, psychiatric drugs and antidepressant drugs before the operation and we want these drugs to be stopped before the operation. If smoking is present, it should be stopped at least 3 weeks before the operation. After the operation, discharge is provided after an average of 1 or 2 nights of hospitalization. Swelling and bruises on the face are common. Healing is accelerated with cold application to the face after the operation. On average, the stitches are removed on the 7th day.

There are many surgical methods among facelift procedures. After evaluating the upper, middle and lower face, combined operations can be planned with temple lift (Temporal lift) and fat injections to appropriate areas in case of facial volume deficiencies. The incisions begin in the temple area, continue in front of the ear, and are finished behind the ear adjacent to the scalp in a way that allows neck stretching. In face lift operations, plication of the layer covering the facial muscles called SMAS, suturing techniques such as MACS Lift, SMAS stretching procedures, techniques such as SMAS resection such as Lateral SMASectomy, techniques with shorter recovery time and lower complication rates can be applied. The main purpose of all techniques is to stretch the skin and subcutaneous SMAS layers that cause sagging and piles on the middle and lower face and to remove the excess skin and suture it again. In the presence of severe sagging and for advanced age patients, we provide the longest and natural effect with deep plan face lift surgeries. Many factors such as aging genetics, stress status, smoking can affect the duration of the operation, and the positive effects of the operation on the face continue for an average of 10-15 years. I can say that the success of the operation is close to 100% when appropriate surgical applications are made.
